Hi y’all, I was going to try and build this into that there sidebar malarky but that’s just too technical for my inferior mind. So, until someone else takes that task in hand, I’ll just use the main blog as a dumping ground of sorts. At the meeting on Monday there was mention of having a list of upcoming events that may be of interest to Burn the Jukeboxers in the big smoke. A good way of turning folks onto stuff they might have missed or forgot about or, y’know, what evs.
Here are a few things that I’ll be checking out. Feel free to come along! (These are all happening SOON!):
Friday 1st April – Sunday 24th April: Kid Acne Rhythm is a Dancer Exhibition at Stolen Space, Truman Brewery, Brick Lane
Info on this one is sparse to a degree. For some reason I was convinced the opening was on Friday the 1st but, like all exhibit openings, I think that may be occurring on the Thursday which means I’ll miss it and won’t get to snag any free bottles of lager. Ah well, this will still be worth a visit as every one knows Kid Acne is a badman. Last time I went to an exhibition of his I bought this… yeah, man! Think this exhibit will mostly feature his Art Fags. Check out his blog or Stolen Space for more info. Opening times are Tuesdays to Sundays, 11:00 – 19:00.
Friday 1st / Saturday 2nd April : Upset the Rhythm Spaghetti Tree at Bussey Building, 133 Rye Lane, Peckham, SE15 4ST
Friday looks pretty good but I ain’t going. Saturday should be pretty interesting, though. I like all-day events with a mixture of known and unknown quantities thrown into the mix. Upset the Rhythm events always have a nice diy ethic, although they can be a bit scene but, y’know, that doesn’t really bother me cos I am the scene. Just sayin’.
Sunday 3rd April: Egaku: Draw for Japan Art Fair at Jaguar Shoes, 32-36 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch
This is a day-time art thing at Jaguar Shoes. Go here and follow the links, innit. If yr too lazy for that, just to make it simple, I’ll tell you it’s 12 – 8pm at the address underlined above. It’ll have zines and artworks and all that jazz. Plus, I was once told that you can get bottles of Leffe Radieuse (or Leffe Ridiculous as me and my mate like to call it) in there. This will be my first time in Jaguar Shoes. I always used to avoid it cos that name was way too Nathan Barley even for me! But, hey, it’s for a good cause and that, tha knows. Don’t worry, I’ll roll my sleeves up to ten, might even grow a ‘tache and wax that shit up… oh balls, I can’t actually grow one; oh well, it’ll be reight.
Sunday 3rd April: No York Mini Festival at The Old Blue Last, Shoreditch
I’ve seen/heard a couple of the acts at this. The main seller for me is that the poster has a jokes drawing of a man with his schlong out. That stuff knocks me out. Hell, I’ve got entire books that are made up of that type of thing! Also, it’s free! Always a bonus. It kicks of at 18:00, too, which is probably a good thing on a Sunday. I can’t really find any links but that’s what happens when promoters name their nights after seminal no-wave compilations produced by Brian Eno. Here’s the Facebook invite, though.
Anyhoo, that’s all there is to that. Maybe I’ll see some of you at the above listed events. Or, at least, maybe this post will inspire one of you to get a sidebar up and running for listing this type of shizzle; if only so that you have to hear less of my inane ramblings!
